Boko Haram attack in Nigeria: Nine killed

Abuja, Sep 19 Just two days after Boko Haram fighters staged gun and suicide bomb attacks on a military camp outside a university in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state, another attack took place on Thursday in which 9 people were killed.

Military sources who confirmed the attack said the incident occurred late on Wednesday in Aljilati Ngomari village, Xinhua news agency reported.

Four of the victims were killed with bows and arrows while five others were hacked to death with machetes, said a military source requesting anonymity.

The jihadist group known as Boko Haram started insurgency in northeastern Nigeria in 2009 and spread its wings into neighboring Niger, Chad and Cameroon. In 2016,Boko Haram split into two factions in mid-2016. One, led by long-time leader Abubakar Shekau, who pledged allegiance to ISIS, and acrrie sout suicide bombings and indiscriminate killings of civilians.
Other faction is called Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) which focuses on attacking military and government targets.
