London, Dec 14 : Boris Johnson returned to Downing Street after securing a thumping victory in UK’s general election but protests were held against the Prime Minister in central London.
Almost 14 million people voting in favour of Johnson’s government to support his promise to “get Brexit done” and take the country out of the European Union by 31 January next year.
Johnson’s Conservatives captured 364 of the 650 seats in the House of Commons. The Tories were heading for their biggest majority in Parliament since Margaret Thatcher triumphed in 1987.
The pound jumped by about 2 percent against the dollar on Johnson promise to “get Brexit done” after years of political deadlock over Britain’s future.
Britain’s prime minister, Boris Johnson victory in the UK’s general election the third election in five years, is also considered his personal victory.
Labour heads to its worst result since 1935 losing 59 seats to 203.
