March 10 : Right-wing groups in India are against any Hindu-Muslim harmony in the country as they called for boycott of detergent Surf excel after the Hindustan Unilever’s Surf Excel released an advertisement on Holi, themed on Hindu-Muslim unity.
In India, BJP leaders have been giving provoking statements against minorities and no action is being taken on them by the Narendra Modi government but when one talks of unity or Hindu-Muslim harmony, the right- wing groups (Hindu extremists) are critical of it.
Surf Excel just released its 2019 Holi ad with the #RangLaayeSang. The ad consists of a beautiful story depicting a girl who helps her neighbour complete his Namaz and he can join in the colourful festivities, which sends across a message that Surf Excel describes on YouTube: “how the colours of Holi can truly be the colours of oneness – melting differences & bringing people together.”
Ever since the ad has been released, people are lauding Surf Excel for the concept of the ad while, some right wing groups have started campaign on twitter with #BoycottSurfExcel
However, the response from many has been a tweet campaign asking that the detergent being advertised be boycotted.
#boycottSurfExcel is now trending on Twitter.
Lovely ad #SurfExcel . This is the real India. Mutual respect for each other's faith should be the bedrock of our democracy. https://t.co/fEZyTPGycv
