France plans to impose sanctions on Pakistan on Pulwama attack as it assumed UNSC presidency

“Welcome the easing of tensions between India and Pakistan and release of IAF pilot. I hail the two governments’ choice of restraint and responsibility and urge them to resume bilateral dialogue,”Drain said.

France is working on a proposal to ban chief of the UN-proscribed Jaish-e Muhammad (JeM) Masood Azhar.

At a time when the international community is facing multiples challenges, France intends to share with its partners an ambitious vision of the Security Council, which remains an invaluable tool for the peaceful resolution of disputes.

We applaud the work carried out by Equatorial Guinea, whose presidency ended on February 28.

According to the UN Charter, the chief responsibilities of the Security Council are peacekeeping and international security. As a permanent member, France has a special responsibility in those areas.

The rotating monthly Presidency of the 15-nation UN Security Council (UNSC) has been handed to France  from Equatorial Guinea to France on March 1.
