Tehran, Aug 22 : Iran unveiled on Thursday domestically built long-range, surface-to-air missile air defence system.The display comes amid rising tensions between the US and Iran in the Gulf.
The missile system Bavar-373, was unveiled during a ceremony in the presence of President Hassan Rouhani, Defence Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami and other senior military officials, Press TV reported.
Bavar-373 is being described as a competitor to Russia’s S-300 missile system.
Bavar-373 is a mobile missile defence system designed to intercept and destroy incoming hostile targets. The system employs missiles that have a maximum range of 300 kilometres, the report said.
The system is capable of simultaneously detecting up to 300 targets, tracking 60 targets at once and engaging six targets at a time.
