Srinagar, Jan 26: Two terrorists of the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) outfit were gunned down by security forces in an ongoing encounter in Konmoh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar.
After receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in a residential area of Konmoh, a joint team of 50 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Srinagar Police has launched the cordon and search operations.
An encounter broke out on Saturday between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir as terrorists opened fire and security forces retaliated and still around 3-4 terrorists are believed to be cornered by the security forces in the area.
“As the cordon was tightened, the terrorists fired, triggering the encounter,” a police officer said.
The terrorists in Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar city. They had planned to disrupt the Republic Day functions being held here, the sources said
Two AK-47 rifles and ammunition were recovered from their possession.
A search operation was going on in the area.
Security was heightened in the city as various official functions have been planned in connection with the Republic Day celebrations.
