Kolkata (India), May 7 : Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal chief minister, responded to PM Marendra Modi’s attack on her and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, saying, Modi’s entire body is drenched in the blood of people.
Referring to the 2002 riots which took place during PM Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee hit back at Modi at a rally in Bishnupur, “People who lay down their lives for the country, they should be respected. Yesterday, you called Rajiv Gandhi corrupted Prime Minister. Today you are calling me ‘tolabaaz’. If I am a tolabaaz, what are you? What are you? Your entire body – from head to feet – is drenched in the blood of people. Only riots, only riots and only riots.”
The Gujarat riots are one of India’s worst ever instances of communal violencein which 2,000 people were killed, mostly Muslims, and including children.
Mamata in Jhargram rally said, “I don’t consider him the country’s PM, hence I didn’t sit for the meeting.I don’t want to be seen with him on the same platform. I’ll speak to the next PM.We can take care of cyclone damage by ourselves. We don’t need Centre’s help ahead of polls.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a rally, said that West Bengal under Banerjee was known for “triple T — Trinamool, Tolabaazi, Tax”. “Tolabaazi” is a near-abusive term used in Bengali to describe organised extortion.
Modi attacked Rahul Gandhi that the life of his father, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, ended as “corrupt number 1”.
“Your father was termed ‘Mr Clean’ by his courtiers, but his life ended as ”Bhrashtachari No 1” (corrupt number 1),” PM Modi said at a rally in Uttar Pradesh.
Mamata Banerjee said, “When asked what does Prime Minifter Modi wife do and where does she stay, he (PM) said he doesn’t know. He can’t take care of his wife, he will take care of Indians?
PM Modi has attacked Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress party over corruption and political violence in the state, the Chief Minister has accused him and the BJP of polarise the state to garner votes.
