Questioning the silence of Modi government at the centre and the BJP ruled government in Jharkhand over lynching of a Muslim man by a mob and he was forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Hanuman,” Congress president Rahul Gandhi termed Jharkhand lynching a blot on humanity.
Taking to Twitter, the Congress chief questioned the silence of the central and the state government. “The brutal lynching of this young man by a mob in Jharkhand is a blot on humanity. The cruelty of the police who held this dying boy in custody for 4 days is shocking as is the silence of powerful voices in the BJP ruled Central & State Govts,” Gandhi tweeted.
A 22-year-old Muslim man died in a local hospital in Jharkhand on Sunday days after he was thrashed by a mob on suspicion of stealing a bike. Tabrez Ansari was tied to an electricity pole and forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Hanuman” while the perpetrators continued to whip him with sticks.The incident sparked a political outrage with many leaders cornering the BJP for “spreading hatred across the world”.
Earlier on Monday, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on slammed the BJP’s idea of ‘New India’ requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give back ‘old India’ to the people of the country. He also asserted that the state of Jharkhand is slowly becoming a factory of lynching and violence.While opening up the debate from the Opposition side on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Speech, the Congress leader said, “Keep the new India with you and give us back our old India where there was love, compassion, and respect for culture between the communities.
