‘Narendra Modi a modern-day Aurangzeb, levies tax on Hindus for access to Kashi Vishwanath temple’

Varanasi, (India) May 8 : Senior Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam called Prime Minister Narendra Modi- the modern reincarnation of Aurangzeb as he ordered demolition of several temples as part of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor project and has imposed tax for darshan to Kashi Vishwanath temple.

Nirupam, who reached Varanasi ‘to campaign for Congress Candidate Ajai Rai who is contesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Varanasi seat, said, ” Varanasi had in 2014 elected the modern reincarnation of Aurangzeb because several temples that stood in the area of
Kashi Vishwanath corridor project have also been demolished and Rs550 has been imposed as fee for devotees access to the Kashi Vishwanath temple and to pay respects to Lord Shiva.”

He said ” Aurangzeb is known for levying Jziya on Hindus .”

He accused the administration of having destroyed and thrown away several idols and Shiva lingas. The administration has denied that any temples have been demolished.

The Kashi Vishwanath temple houses one of the pre-eminent Shiva lingas in the country, and is thus considered among the most sacred temples.
PM Modi’s dream project Kashi Vishwanath Corridor plan set to cost Rs 600 crore, was officially set in motion in March 2018. The idea is to clear around 45,000 square metres of space around the temple and create dedicated pathways that are 50 feet wide
