Israel, June 16: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday announced the establishment of a new town in the Golan Heights And named it “Ramat Trump or “Trump Heights” in honor of US President Donald Trump.
However, critics noted, no new locality can be established before the September elections, as the interim government does not have the authority for such a move.
Netanyahu acted just over two months after Trump signed a proclamation on March 25 recognizing Israel’ sovereignty over the strategic plateau when Netanyahu visited the White House. Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Six Day War and later annexed, in a move not recognized by the wider international community.
