New Delhi July 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip as the Modi government has listed the contentious triple talaq bill for consideration and passage in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
The bill has been cleared by the Lok Sabha amidst objection by the Opposition benches who staged a walkout. The opposition has accused the government of singling out a Muslim community. The bill was passed with 302 vs 82 in the Lower House of the Parliament.The bill, which criminalises instant talaq for Muslim men and seeks imprisonment for the guilty
The bill may also face opposition from 42 members that include – 12 members of SP, 13 TMC, five CPM, four BSP, three AAP, one CPI, two each of the TDP and PDP. BJP ally JD(U) is also likely to oppose while the decision of some parties are still unknown :seven of the BJD, six TRS, two YSRCP, one of the NPF and two others.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has 113 seats in the Rajya Sabha.
