May 30: Initially, the state-owned Indian Oil Corp (IOC) announced a reduction of 60 paise — the biggest since daily price revision was introduced in mid-June last year, but it was retracted within a couple of hours citing a technical error.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed the one paisa cut in fuel prices, saying if this was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s idea of a “prank”, it was “childish and in poor taste”.
Gandhi tweeted ” Dear PM, You’ve cut the price of Petrol and Diesel today by 1 paisa. ONE paisa!?? If this is your idea of a prank, it’s childish and in poor taste”.
He further said that the “One paisa cut is not a suitable response to the fuel challenge I threw you last week.”
You’ve cut the price of Petrol and Diesel today by 1 paisa. ONE paisa!??
If this is your idea of a prank, it’s childish and in poor taste.

Earlier in the morning, the Indian Oil Corporation announced that the price of petrol was less by 60 paise in New Delhi and 59 paise in Mumbai. Diesel prices too, they said, were reduced by 56 paise in New Delhi and 59 paise in Mumbai. But later, the prices were revised.
This nevertheless, is the first time in 16 days that prices have been cut since May 14 when fuel retailers ended a 19-day pre-Karnataka poll hiatus to pass on a spike in global oil rates.
Last week Rahul threw a challenge at PM Modi after he accepted Cricketer Virat Kohli ‘s fitness challenge saying reduce fuel prices or face countrywide protests.
“Dear PM, Glad to see you accept the Kohli’s fitness challenge. Here’s one from me: Reduce Fuel prices or the Congress will do a nationwide agitation and force you to do so. I look forward to your response”, the Congress President had said.
