New Delhi, Dec 3: Bollywood actress turned Politician and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan asserted that rapists should be brought out in public and lynched.
She suggested this kind of punishment for rapists during her fiery speech in Rajya Sabha on the brutal rape and murder of a 27-year-old veterinary doctor in Telangana. She said that rapists should be brought in public and lynched and asked the government to give a proper and definite answer.
Twitter has left the netizens divided in opinion.
A part of Jaya Bachchan’s speech reads, “I don’t know how many times I’ve stood and spoken after this kind of a crime. I think it is time… whether Nirbhaya or Kathua or what happened in Telangana.”
She then added, “These types of people (the rape accused) need to be brought out in public and lynched.”
This statement has left the Twitterati divided completely. While some were in favour of the idea, others claimed that mob-lynching is already a serious issue in the country that should be trivialised like this.
Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel supported Jaya Bachchan and tweeted, “Yes!! Agree with Jaya ji, khoon ke badle khoon…lynching ke badle lynching, this is new India we all want, kayarta ki misal ban chuka hai yeh Bharat…”
Some say that a lawmaker is openly supporting mob violence and lynching act.
