In an effort to twist the much-hyped visit of former president Pranab Mukherjee in which he preached the lessons of nationalism and pluralism, RSS played dirty tricks by circulating morphed images of him giving an RSS-style salute that went viral on social media.
Minutes after Pranab Mukherjee speech at Nagpur, his daughter and Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee on Thursday night said that as she had feared and cautioned her father against, the “dirty tricks department” of the BJP-RSS as they circulated morphed picture on social media showing the former president raising his hand in salutation like the RSS leaders and cadres.
Sharmistha Mukherjee was vehemently opposed to the former president visiting the RSS headquarters and took to Twitter on Thursday to express her disapproval of it.
“See, this is exactly what I was fearing and warned my father about. Not even few hours have passed, but BJP/RSS dirty tricks dept is at work in full swing!” she said, responding to a tweet showing a “morphed” picture of Pranab Mukherjee doing the salutation along with RSS leaders and cadres at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur on Thursday. Sharmistha Mukherjee had on Wednesday said her father was giving the BJP and the Sangh a handle to plant false stories.

Sharmistha Mukherjee was against her father Pranab’s decision of attending the RS event as she claimed that her father was giving the BJP and the Sangh a handle to plant false stories.
Mukherjee has asked him to reconsider his decision to attend an event organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) in Nagpur.
In a series of tweets posted on Wednesday, Sharmishta said that by agreeing to attend the RSS event on Thursday, the former president is giving the BJP and the RSS a chance to plant false stories.
Pranab Mukherjee’s decision to attend the event has drawn much traction with many Congress leaders asking Mukherjee to reconsider his decision.
Writing on Twitter, Sharmistha said his [Pranab Mukherjee’s] “speech will be forgotten” but the “visuals will remain”.
