Ukraine to speed up process for NATO membership: President Zelensky

Kiev, Oct 31 After meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. President Zelensky announced in a joint briefing that Kiev is ready to speed up preparations for membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

“We are ready to work close with the Alliance and accelerate preparation for NATO membership, without taking the possibility of Ukraine’s joining the Membership Action Plan off the table. We are ready today to prove practically that Ukraine deserves such format of relations with the Alliance,” Zelensky said.

President Zelensky noted that during the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, the sides have agreed on the renewed consolidated projects package.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reaffirmed NATO member states’ readiness to accept Ukraine into their community under a number of conditions, and Russia has no voting right in this matter.

“Today, we are ready to prove with our deeds that Ukraine deserves this format of relations with the alliance,” Zelensky said during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, reports Xinhua news agency.

“For our part, we realize that only effective reforms are the key to our membership in the Alliance,” Zelensky said at the NATO-Ukraine Commission meeting in Kyiv on Thursday,UNIAN reported.

The NATO delegation headed by Stoltenberg visited Odessa and Kiev on Wednesday and Thursday and held meetings with senior Ukrainian officials during the two-day visit.
