g7 summit 2019

Biarritz (France), Aug 27 : U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested to readmit Russia into the G7 group of advanced industrial economies by inviting Vladimir Putin to attend the G-7 summit, the Washington is hosting next year.

Trump said the G7 summit might be in Miami, Florida in 2020 .”I would certainly invite him,” Trump told the closing press conference of the G7 summit on Monday at the French seaside resort Biarritz, Xinhua news agency reported. He added he is not sure whether Putin, “a proud man” in his term, would accept the invitation.

While European countries opposed allowing Russian leader Vladimir Putin to be readmitted leading to “heated exchanges” at the group’s annual summit over the weekend.French, British, German and Canadian leaders, as well as the head of the European Union insisted that the G7 remain “a family, a club, a community of liberal democracies.

“We did discuss it. We had a very good discussion on Russia and President Putin, and a lively discussion, but, really, a good one,” Trump told reporters after meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Biarritz, France, where the gathering of world leaders is taking place.” It’s certainly possible. We’ll see.”

The president went on to say “a number of people” would like to see Russia return to the group, saying it would be a “positive.”

Russia had been a member of the G8 until 2014, when the country was excluded over its annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

Trump had stated that Crimea’s annexation by Russia was partially justified. And that we should accept this fact,” Donald Tusk said on Saturday. “Under no condition can we agree with this logic.”
