Xi Jinping to visit India for informal summit On October 11-12

New Delhi, Oct 9 : Reiterating that Kashmir dispute is a bilateral issue between New Delhi and Islamabad, China confirmed President Xi Jinping visit to India from October 11-12 for the second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mahabalipuram in Chennai. China said the status of Ladakh cannot be changed and Home Minister Amit Shah said that when he talks about Jammu and Kashmir , POK and Aksai Chin are included in India. It is likely PM will again reiterate that there is no change in LAC.

The summit assumes significance as it is being held after Xi Jinping met Pakistan PM Imran Khan.

China took days to confirm President Xi Jinping ‘s visit to India and New Delhi has objected after foreign minister Wang Yi said “the Kashmir issue should be peacefully and properly addressed in accordance with the UN Charter, Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreement,”during the recent UN General Assembly.

“At the invitation of the Prime Minister, the President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping will be visiting Chennai, India from October 11-12, 2019 for the 2nd Informal Summit.”The forthcoming Chennai Informal Summit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to continue their discussions on overarching issues of bilateral, regional and global importance and to exchange views on deepening the India-China Closer Development Partnership,” the MEA statement said.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, Geng Shuang said Beijing’s stand on the dispute has been consistent.

“And, so you are paying attention to the Kashmir issue, right? China’s position on Kashmir issue is clear and consistent. We call on India and Pakistan to engage in dialogue and consultation on all issues including Kashmir issue and consolidate mutual trust. This is in line with the interest of both countries and common aspiration of the world,” Geng said at the foreign ministry briefing on Wednesday.

This meeting will be third since PM Modi’s re-election and their second informal meet since the Wuhan summit last year, the government said, formally announcing the dates today. The summit will take place in the ancient coastal town of Mamallapuram near Chennai. The two leaders had their inaugural informal summit in China’s Wuhan in April last year. “The two leaders had their inaugural Informal Summit in Wuhan, China on 27-28 April 2018.
